Panicale

Panicale

“Our” little village, Panicale, is just a few minutes’ drive from our home and has a wonderfully authentic square lined with cafés and restaurants. It’s a charming medieval hilltop village with narrow streets, atmospheric piazzas and breathtaking views over the Umbrian countryside and Lake Trasimeno. Settle down at one of the two cosy bars for a drink, or enjoy dinner at one of the four excellent restaurants.

Castiligione del Lago

Castiglione del Lago sits on a picturesque peninsula on Lake Trasimeno and is perfect for a day out. Stroll through the charming old town filled with boutiques and cafés, visit the impressive castle overlooking the lake, or enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. With its blend of history, water and true Italian charm, it’s a place you don’t want to miss.

Isola Maggiore

Isola Maggiore is the only inhabited island on Lake Trasimeno and a wonderful destination for a day trip. From one of the lakeside villages you can take the ferry, and after a short ride you’ll find yourself in a peaceful world of car-free lanes, old fishermen’s houses and beautiful views. Take a walk through the olive groves, visit the little church of San Michele Arcangelo, or enjoy a fresh (fish) lunch right by the water.

Spello enchants with its flower-lined streets, medieval charm and peaceful atmosphere.

Assisi is world-famous as the birthplace of Saint Francis and an important pilgrimage site. Its majestic basilica, serene atmosphere and sweeping views of the Umbrian countryside make it a place that stays with you.

Montefalco & Bevagna

In the heart of Umbria you’ll find two charming towns that are perfect for a relaxing day trip.

Montefalco, known as the “balcony of Umbria,” offers magnificent views over the surrounding hills and vineyards. The town is famous for its Sagrantino wine and its charming squares, perfect for a leisurely lunch or a tasting in one of the many wine bars.

Bevagna, situated lower in the valley, has an intimate and authentic atmosphere. Here, it feels as if time has stood still. Stroll across the central square, visit the medieval workshops and see how traditional crafts are still brought to life. Especially during the annual Medieval Festival, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into another era.

Val d'orcia

Just across the border from Umbria lies the Val d’Orcia — one of the most iconic and photogenic landscapes in all of Italy. Picture rolling hills, winding cypress-lined roads, golden wheat fields and perfectly placed villages like Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano. This region is not only a feast for the eyes but also for the taste buds: world-famous wines, pecorino cheese and local specialties are found everywhere. A day trip to the Val d’Orcia is truly a must!

Arezzo

Arezzo is a delightful city with a rich history, famous for its antique markets, art and architecture. On the beautiful Piazza Grande you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped onto a film set (quite literally — La Vita è Bella was partly filmed here). Visit the frescoes of Piero della Francesca, stroll through elegant shopping streets and enjoy lunch on a sun-drenched terrace. Arezzo is less touristy than many Tuscan cities, yet every bit as impressive.
